How British National Lottery funded 2012 London Olympics

“Ordinary people’s money that has gone into elite and grassroots sport for years, including £2.2billion into the infrastructure of the Olympic Park.” It has been paid for by National Lottery players.
Britain’s National Lottery in the year 2011-12 supported the investment in Olympic and Paralympic Sports.

The Lottery’s winning numbers for sport

  • The National Lottery has contributed the majority of the investment in Olympic and Paralympic Sports: £183.5million out of the total of £313.5million
  • The National Lottery has provided £2.2billion towards the construction of the Olympic Stadium, the Velodrome and the Aquatics Centre
  • Camelot achieved its highest-ever ticket sales in 2011-12 of £6.5billion boosted by two of the biggest ever Euromillions rollover jackpots, both of which went to players in the UK
  • Each week Camelot generates more than £30million for National Lottery Good Causes and has raised a total of £28billion since its launch  in 1994
  • An average of 124 lottery grants are made for every postcode district
  • The National Lottery’s crossed finger logo is recognizable to 95 per cent of the population
  • The National Lottery creates about four million winners a week and an average of 20 millionaires every month. More than 2,900 millionaires or multi-millionaires have been created since the lottery’s launch in 1994
  • More than 12,000 people have had a share of the Lotto jackpot prize since its launch
  • Prize money has totaled £41billion
